Artist Statement…

Painting allows me to explore my fascination with the parallel that I see between deep thought, deep water, and deep space. The rich blackness
that exists in all of these places is a constant source of inspiration.
The subconscious mind, the ocean floor, outer space; these are places
that we cannot readily see. There are unknown aspects of each of these
and it is the unknown that I am interested in.

Asking questions without definite answers becomes a kind of meditation
and a new way for me to see the world. Engaging in deep thought can make you question your own existence and one object or idea can be many at once. A cloud is a mountain, is a body of water, is the blink of a waking eye, is a dream. The places represented in my paintings are the places where thoughts can visually manifest themselves underneath the weight of
oceanic waves, floating in deep space.
